This year the National Capital Area Council is offering a “Multi-week Day Camp.” Details are in the attached document. This will primarily be of interest to younger scouts (younger than Webelos).

Similar to Day Camps from previous years, there will be a theme for each week and Scouts will have an opportunity to advance in their Scouting career.

So what’s different? One of the biggest changes to that Den Walkers are Staffed positions. There is NO requirement for a Pack to provide Den Walkers.

Below is a flyer for the overall program. The FAQ section on Page 2. goes into more detail regarding what is different and what you can expect.

And here is a breakdown of the theme week by week:

June 18 - June 22, 2018 Space Theme
June 25 - June 29, 2018 Scout Skills
July 9 - July 13, 2018 Knights of the Round Table
July 16 - July 20, 2018 Jungle Theme
July 23 - July 27, 2018 Space Theme
July 30 - August 3, 2018 Webeloes (Webelos only)

The camp runs from 8am - 3pm, Monday thru Friday. There is the option for Early Drop-off (7am) and Late Pick-up (4pm) available, as space allows, for an additional fee ($25 per option, per week).

WHEN: Sunday, June 24th to Saturday June 30th 2018

WHO: (As of May 2018) Webelo I and Webelo II Scouts are eligible to attend. Our goal is to have at least 12 Scouts and 4 Registered adult leaders (or parents) attend from our pack. Martin Mitchell and myself will be attending as two registered adult leaders for the whole week. Other adults are encouraged to attend all or half of the camp with their son. An adult parent does NOT have to attend with their son. Most boys do not go with their parents, especially the boy scouts.

WHAT: Summer Weblos Resident Camp. Boys will be staying in camp-provided tents with cots (2 scouts per tent) for one week with meals provided in a large camp mess-hall. We are staying at Camp Ross which has tons of planned activities for fun and adventure, many earning the boys requirements for their webelos and Arrow of Light badge. Activities include swimming, hiking, BB Guns, Bow shooting, sling shots, sports, STEM, games, skits, crafts, and of course extravagant camp-fire programs at night. The camp is run by current and former scouts serving as paid summer camp staff with years of scouting experience.

WHERE: Goshen Scout Reservation is a huge scouting camp in the Mountains with rolling hills and a huge lake busting with scout activities. 340 Millard Burke Memorial Hwy Goshen, VA 24439 (about 3 hour drive from Springfield) The pack will plan a car-pool caravan for all attending or you can drive on your own.

WHY: Camping is one of the primary scouting activities and Goshen is the premier scout camp in the region. This summer camp is only open to rising Webelos and Boy Scouts which provides a great experience for your son to get a glimpse of what the adventure of Boy Scouts can provide.

HOW: Please email me ASAP to express your interest. I will provide more information. I will plan to start registering additional scout and adult volunteers in December with the goal of finalizing our roster in January. Our week and location are very popular and slots are expected to book by early next year.

COST: $360 per scout and $225 for adults

All participants will have to have to get a physical and complete an ABC Medical Form to participate. Click on the medical_forms link to the left to download the ABC Form.
