Cub Scout packs serve boys and girls who are in kindergarten through fifth grade (or 5 through 10 years of age). This scouting program has provided high quality, fun and educational programs designed to help young people build moral strength and character, develop fitness, and become active, responsible citizens. Cub Scouts emphasizes a year-round, home-centered program at the local level that helps to strengthen the family. But children don’t join Scouting to build character. They join because it is filled with fun adventures!
Pack 685 (Chartered by the Winston Knolls Civic Association) meets once a month as a collective group on the fourth Thursday of the month at Orange Hunt Elementary. Exceptions to the calendar are made during the months of November and December. There are games, skits, songs, ceremonies, and presentations of awards earned that month.
The pack also runs special Cub Scout programs, such as Pinewood Derby and Blue & Gold ceremony. Additional scouting activities and events include, community service, pack picnic, Scout Day, summer activities, parades, fall and spring campouts.
The rank specific achievements are completed at Den meetings. Den meetings are led by volunteer den leaders and assistant den leaders with help from the other parents. The dens, smaller group based upon grade level, meet in homes, churches, or other community spaces as determined by the Den Leader. Dens can meet as frequently as one week a month to weekly. Typically younger scouts meet less often.
Dens are also encouraged to plan "Go See It" field trips to learn more about their community. This may be done in addition to or in place of a den meeting.
