Cub Scout Day Camp 2005

It's time to polish up your suit of armor and join Sir Campalot at this year's Cub Scout Day Camp, "A Festival of Knights." Day Camp will be held July 18-22 at Ft. Belvoir. It will take place 9:00-3:30 Monday through Thursday and 9:00-12:30 on Friday. Activities usually include a combination of games and sports, Scouting achievement opportunities, archery, crafts, nature study, fishing, handicrafts, and camp skills. Each Cub Scout that attends day camp will receive a camp tee shirt, mug or water bottle, and special patch.

Day Camp is designed primarily for rising Wolf and Bear scouts (current Tigers and Wolves). Rising Webelos scouts (current Bears and Webelos I) are strongly encouraged to attend Camp Goshen with the Pack's Webelos contingent on August 7-13. However, Webelos scouts are welcome at day camp. Last year some of our Webelos attended both camps!

The cost is $110 per scout if paid by April 17. To enroll, please send a check payable to Pack 685 plus a completed registration form (download here) to Dave Shugart so that he receives it by the evening of Sunday, April 17. (The registration form describes a payment deadline of April 22, but that is when the package of Pack registrations must be received at the Council headquarters. In order to review the forms and mail the Pack registration in a timely manner, Dave must receive the individual payments by April 17. The registration form also mentions a $120 rate for payments received after April 22; please note that enrollments received during that period are on a space-available basis.)

This is an excellent value for a weeklong day camp. Cub Scout day camp will satisfy the requirement for a July activity for scouts who wish to earn the Summertime Pack Award, and will satisfy one of the optional requirements for leader knots.

The Pack is required to furnish one adult 'den walker' for every five scouts each day. Since there are five days of camp, each camper must have a parent in camp for at least one day as a den walker. (2 brothers = 2 days of parent volunteering.) Den walkers are not responsible for the program; they accompany our scouts from station to station and maintain order.

IMPORTANT NOTE: when the Pack submits its Day Camp registration in mid-March, we must list our den walkers and the day that each of them will work. Please write in this information on the registration form. Preferences for particular days of the week will be honored on a first-come, first served basis. Please understand that not everyone can work Monday or Friday. Participants will eventually need to furnish a medical form (no physical exam required) and a release form. You don't need to submit those forms at this time. If you have any questions, please contact Dave Shugart at 703-913-1127 (david.shugart@us.army.mil)
